This unique academic + residential project has been developed in collaboration with Oxford University, UK, to offer a school dedicated to pedagogical studies, with a focus on innovative sustainability and adaptive design.

Some of Our Core Inputs

Thermal & Visual Comfort Analysis
A comprehensive analysis was conducted to ensure optimal thermal and visual comfort for the students and faculty. The academy’s design features a combination of adaptive thermal comfort models and traditional Bhutanese clothing (Gho and Kera) to naturally enhance comfort with a clo factor exceeding 

Radiant Heating System
The academy’s heating system includes a radiant heating approach, optimizing energy use while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.

Adaptive Thermal Comfort Model
The design incorporated an adaptive thermal comfort model, keeping the building naturally cool in warmer months and warm during the cold season, while considering local clothing practices to improve overall comfort.

Building Envelope Optimization
The building envelope was optimized with low U-values for roofs and walls to prevent heat loss, contributing to the overall energy efficiency of the structure.

Wind Barrier through Trees
Strategically placed trees create a natural wind barrier, reducing energy consumption while enhancing comfort and sustainability in the local climate.

Lighting and Skylight Analysis
Skylights were strategically placed, and artificial lighting was optimized to achieve an average of 500 lux in the sports hall, enhancing visibility and user experience while minimizing energy consumption.

Final Simulated EPI: 42.9 kWh/m²/year

Carbon Footprint: The project supports Bhutan’s sustainability vision by integrating locally sourced materials and sustainable energy practices.
